The senior thesis course helped me better understand and tie the knowledge I gained throughout my AE years here at Penn State together. It provided a hands on experience which is very similar to the real life experience. Working on my thesis project throughout my senior year helped me focus on my weaknesses and improve them, such as designing in concrete and using computer modeling to verify my design.

During the course of this academic year, I was able to focus more on the different aspects of the design in both steel and reinforced concrete. Getting in contact with different companies during the search for a thesis building to work with allowed me to grow my connections and know more professionals in the industrial world.  Also the fact that we had to do additional breadth topics, allowed me to better understand how other disciplines effect the structural design and how the structural system effect the other disciplines as well.

Senior thesis is a great opportunity and way to ensure that we learned and gained enough knowledge before we graduate, that will be a major tool in shaping our professional future as engineers. I am glad that I was part of it.

Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Eman Elshahat. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
